7 ENABLERS OF SELF SABOTAGE AND HOW TO OVERCOME THEM
People sometimes sabotage themselves because they continue to do the things or put themselves in situations that enables it. These enablers can vary from person to person and the experiences they have been through in Life. The 7 enablers of self-sabotage and how to overcome them will be discussed in this article. Before then, let’s dive into what sabotage means.
To sabotage means to prevent a plan, a person or project from being successful. Therefore self-sabotage is stopping or preventing yourself from being successful. This is as a result of some factors which I am going to classify into the person and the context.

7 ENABLERS ENABLERS OF SELF SABOTAGE AND HOW TO OVERCOME THEM
1. HABIT – There are some habits that can self-sabotage a person and the extent of the damage can vary depending on the person involved. For example, a person who engages in gambling. Gambling can be so addictive that it can ruin a person’s career, family and even that person’s life. Another example is drug addictions. No company wants to employ a drug addict or someone who is into gambling because this poses a risk to them such as financial, reputational etc. These risks can also affect the person and people close to them.
2. LAZINESS – Some people are so lazy that they are not willing to go the extra mile in pursuing success. These kinds of people are satisfied with their average life and don’t see any reason to aim for more. Laziness is self-sabotaging because it will prevent you from putting in the work to be successful and make you miss out on opportunities. Success is not just given, success is as a result of hard work and most times many years of hard work.
3. FEAR – fear is a factor that enables self-sabotage. Fear can stop you from pursuing you dreams and aspirations because you don’t want to fail. Sometimes it’s the fear of the unknown because people most times want to be certain of the outcome of what they venture into and do not want to take risks. They forget that taking risk is part of life and no matter the outcome of risk, there is always something to be learnt.
4. SELF – DOUBT – Doubting yourself will stop you from being successful because you do not believe you have what it takes to be successful. When you doubt yourself, even when people see the potentials that you have, you will not see them. Self-doubt is very limiting because it works with the mind and what you believe is what you manifest. If you have a small perception of yourself, you will not be able to do phenomenal things.

5. WRONG CHOICES – People make wrong choices in life that they end up regretting. Examples are choosing a wrong life partner, a wrong choice of career or profession, a wrong choice of course of study etc. The choices you make can either make or mar you. Some choices can help to propel you into being successful in life while some can be a limitation to your success.
6. BAD RELATIONSHIPS – When a relationship does not bring out the best in you, then it is bad for you. These relationships can be with anyone such as Parent/child relationships, love relationships, work relationships or even friendship. Relationships should add value to you and help you project your positive self. When you know you are in a relationship that is not good for you and you continue to be in it, you are self –sabotaging.
7. ENVIRONMENT – A person’s environment can play a major part in enabling self-sabotage. Some environment provide opportunities that can make a person successful easily. For instance a person who is born in an environment where there are job opportunities, quality standard of living, good education, and good healthcare system will thrive better than someone who does not have these available to them. A person born in less privileged environment may grow up believing that they cannot be successful in life and end up self –sabotaging themselves
How do I know if I am self-sabotaging?
You should consider asking yourself these questions when you are failing over and over or are feeling stuck.
Am I prioritizing instant gratification?
Am I avoiding what needs to be done?
Am I not prioritizing self-care?
Am I always procrastinating?
Am I focusing on self-defeating thoughts?
If you answered yes to any of these questions you could be allowing yourself to engage in self-sabotaging behaviour. You need to be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you feel you deserve better and determine what you are afraid of. Once you do this you may then be able to rise above self-sabotage.https://lisajeffs.com/en-us/self-sabotaging-behavior-thoughts-what-causes-it-and-how-to-rise-above-it/#:~:text=What%20is%20self%20sabotage%3F,goal%20such%20as%20weight%20loss.
